Why do YOU want to join Forever Living?

People have many reasons for joining Forever Living products.  Some see the income opportunities and want to build a big business, others want a little extra each month and just want to do a bit of retail, some just want an occupation or a business they can call their own as they are stuck at home and are lonely, and others just want to get the products for themselves at a discount.

What are your goals?

And do you know what?  Whatever your reason is. That’s ok!   The majority of revenue earned by Forever Living products is from those business owners who just place a small order every now and then, as it all adds up and makes Forever Living a successful business.

Now I joined Forever Living in June 2012 mainly because I had tried the products and benefited from them, and I am VERY careful with my money.  I wanted to get the products at a discount, and my good friend Frances had just joined the business, so I bought my business owner box and joined Frances’ team, but planned to just be buying products for myself. I was definitely not interested in building a Forever Living business when I first joined.

However I’m a chatterbox, I love to talk, and I’ll talk to anybody, those who have met me will have noticed, and I also like to share with others too.  Whether that’s a book I have enjoyed reading, a film that has captured my imagination, a networking meeting I love or a product I’ve used.  I just like to share, so I actually found that without really wanting to be a ‘sales person’ I was building up a retail business which brought in extra money each month and also covered the cost of the products I wanted for myself and my family.  It was a win-win situation, instead of my products being cheaper, they are actually in effect free!

I have also actually enjoyed building a team too, and coaching and helping others who have joined Forever Living to build their own business. Something I never expected to take to.  The only thing I do find frustrating is when people won’t be honest with you about why they want to join the business.  I know everyone is different and what has worked for me might not necessarily work for you too, so tell me what YOU want to get from Forever Living, not what you think I want you to say.

So if you are looking to join Forever Living just to get the products a bit cheaper, then just let me know, and I can help you with that, but I won’t try and coach and mentor you if you don’t want to build a business yourself.  Just tell me honestly what your reason for joining Forever is and I’ll leave you alone if that is what you want.  Forever Living business owners have sometimes come over as pushy and unable to take no for an answer, but with better company training I’m finding this to be less and less the case with us now.

Of course if like me you join for that reason but then change your mind, that’s ok too.  We have so many fabulous resources and pieces of training available that when you change your mind we are ready to help you build that bigger business.  Just tell us again that you are ready to make a change.

Updating your Who Do You Know List

What is a Who Do You Know List?

If you are new to Network Marketing then one of the first tasks your sponsor will ask you to do is most likely starting a Who Do You Know List.

On this list you should write down everyone you know, regardless of whether you think they might be interested in  your products or business.  You then use this list as your source for approaching people about the products and the business – but if you have been in Network Marketing for a while have you kept your list going adding new names as you think of them or as you meet people in your every day life and talk to them about your business?

My Story

I let my list go for a long while when I wasn’t totally focused on my business as life had got in the way, but last year when I decided to get serious about recruiting and building a team I printed out a load of template pages from our Forever Living First Steps to Manager book and every time I talked to someone about the business or the products I added them to my list with a short note on how I know them, or where they are based.
This is how I can keep track of how many people I have spoken to about my business.  Then I highlight a name in yellow when the person becomes a customer, and in pink when they become a team member.
This acts as a fantastic tool for me to see visually how well I am doing. I now have over 700 names on my list, and I have 21 (1 in 33) team members  of which 10 ( 1 in 70) are active (they place orders most months). I have also built up a database of 150 (1 in 5) customers over the last few years, so I can see how successful my business is by looking at the numbers, to get new customers or build my team I just need to talk to new people.
This means roughly if I want 1 new ACTIVE team member I need to speak to 70 people, and if I want a new customer I need to speak to 5 people. It really helps me to focus as if I’m not recruiting in any month, I can see immediately it’s because I’ve not spoken to enough people.  This isn’t an exact science, some pages on my list have loads of yellow and pink highlights on them, and other pages have none at all, but it’s a great guideline.

Keeping Good Records

If you are treating forever like a business and not a hobby then you need to track your activity and keep these kind of records, as otherwise you have no idea how successful your business is.  In Forever Living we have templates for keeping these lists which come in your First Steps to Manager booklet, as well as profile sheets to keep detailed information on who you have spoken to,  and an Activity Tracker to keep track of what information you have sent to prospects and when you have invited them to a Business Presentation and when they joined.

When you start out in Network Marketing you are starting your own business and you are your own boss.  Make sure you keep good records, so you can effectively follow up on inquiries as often you will need to speak to prospects several times over a few years before it is the right time for them to join your business, and without good records that fabulous new team member may well end up joining someone else’s team.

It can be a daunting experience working as an independent business owner, and knowing where to turn for support can often be a minefield. But it’s important to recognise that all the most successful people in life, at some stage, will have depended on others to help them along their journey; whether that’s through a mentor, guide books or something more personal.

As a Network Marketer, the likelihood is you will constantly be learning and developing both yourself and your business, but sometimes it can be difficult to know what is on offer, particularly if your upline is relatively new to the business as well. This post is designed to help you build up your confidence, not only by suggesting where to go to for support, but also through encouraging a pro-active approach; one that seeks to promote your independent status

Be Brave and Network

Networking is absolutely something you need to adopt and become confident in since it enables you to both learn and progress. In fact, progression is reliant upon networking, and this means you need to look further than your immediate friendship group!

Company Events

Regularly attending events and trainings is a fantastic way to put your face out into the world, and you are also guaranteed to learn something new whilst you are there. Even if you avoid people the first few times, eventually others will begin to recognise you; plus regular attendance will help you to feel more comfortable, particularly as you become more familiar with other regular attendees.

With Forever Living we have Success Day, Company Trainings and Business Presentations which are all fabulous ways to mix with other Forever Living business owners and learn something new while you are there.

Social Media

We appreciate that, for some people, initiating conversation can be terrifying. Sometimes taking that first step outside of your comfort zone is easier when done behind a screen. If that’s true for you, begin by utilising social media. Build your virtual network by messaging others in your business who you admire and asking for their advice, but whatever you do, don’t just start adding loads of people randomly. As a general rule, it’s usually more acceptable to follow people on Twitter randomly than adding them as friends on Facebook!

In Forever Living most teams and area leaders run Facebook groups, so it’s always worth joining your local group and initiating conversation here first.

YouTube is also an excellent tool that can help build your understanding of the business, but it also provides training videos that will enable you to learn from top people in your business  in the comfort of your own home. If you find a story you relate to, why don’t you see if you can find that person on social media and start by telling them how much you enjoyed hearing their story? It’s always a good idea to start with a compliment rather than a request!

Build your Confidence

If you feel confident in your business knowledge, you will feel more confident in yourself, and such confidence will make approaching prospects a whole lot easier. The most effective way to develop your business and product knowledge is through research. Attending events and conversing with other business owners is important
, but reading up on key areas shows initiative.

Forever living have company literature and  online resources you can access.  Some are open to anyone in the company and others are team specific, so if you haven’t joined a team yet it’s worth double checking the resources available with whoever you are thinking of joining in the business.  Training with Forever

Expand Your Horizons

Looking within your industry is fundamental when you need to brush up on product knowledge and company policy, but if it is motivation and general business-building skills you are after, it can be helpful to look further afield. Knowledge is King – A Forever Living approved supplier – provides a wonderful array of books that could help develop your approach to business. Advice books from top entrepreneurs, such as Jim Rohn and Darren Hardy, are worth investing in, particularly if you are looking to be inspired, but the Knowledge is King website – www.knowledgeisking.co.uk – also sells guides to business such as network marketing, prospecting and goal setting – all areas we encourage you to familiarise yourself with. If reading is not something you favour, Knowledge is King also offers audio books – perfect for the car as you journey to prospects or team meetings.

If all else fails…

If you still find you are struggling and you have already approached your sponsor and other business owners, Head Office may be able to help you. There are processes that can be set in motion that may be of help. However, these routes should only be utilised if you feel you have exhausted all other avenues.

How not to grow your network marketing team

I get a lot of requests from people to help them join Forever Living by paying for their business owner box (Formerly the New Distributor Pack – NDP). I know that the  investment seems like a lot of money to someone who has been made redundant, or can’t find a job,  but it is something I would never recommend to a Forever Business Owner building their business.

Network Marketing

Any network marketing business takes time and dedication to really work.  It is not something you can dabble and play at if you want to make a good living from it.  It’s true that if you treat it like a hobby, it will pay you like a hobby, or even cost you money.  If you treat it like a serious business, it can reward you for many years to come.

You need to be really serious about wanting to start a new business, and this takes commitment and self sacrifice.  It takes investment in time and effort.  You need to consider that your initial investment is providing you with the tools to be able to run your own business.  If you are able to join too easily then you are more likely to give up when the going gets tough.

Network marketing is not the right business for anyone who is not self motivated.  You may be part of a supportive team, but no one will be telling you to get up each morning and get on with your day.  You are your own boss, you need to be able to stand on your own two feet.  And this starts with finding the way to finance your business owner box (BOB).

How can you help?

So if you are asked by a prospect to help them finance their BOB then I recommend you read my previous posts How Much Does it Cost to Join Forever Living for tips on other ways you can help a new team member to join you.  You can help a prospective new team member to put a plan in place to save the money they need to join, and support them in this process.  Then when they are able to join your team you know they are truly committed to their new business and an asset to your growing team.  I have some simple money raising ideas in my post 20 Ways to Raise the money to join Forever Living.

Your team will often be joining Forever because they need the extra income they are making to put food on the table, pay the rent or save for family treats.  Your new team member will not have the money themselves to pay for their new team members to join.  If you recommend that your team have to help their new team members financially then this would not be a duplicable process. So make sure you run your business in the way your sponsor showed you, then help your team members to do the same.

Who do you want to work with?

Ask yourself something, would you want to build a team of people who expect to just be given the resources they need to start a new business?  Or do you want a team of people who have had to fight hard to join your team, shown real self sacrifice and self discipline in order to join you?
