Back in February 2017 I posted about changes in EU regulations concerning Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) in our leave on skin products. This legislation is now changing again.
The New MIT Legislation
In July 2017 EU legislation was passed requiring Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) to be reduced to a specific percentage in all “rinse off” skin care products. Forever has gone one step above and made the decision to completely remove MIT from all of their products. MIT is not considered to be harmful. The background for the new formulation criteria of this ingredient in rinse-off cosmetic and personal care products is due to an “increased incidence of allergies” in some user.
The EU has determined that rinse-off products that contain MIT should be removed from sale by April 27th, 2018.

How does this affect your favourite products?
Forever is working to transition all affected products to new formulas by the stop sell date so that you will have no interruption in the supply of your favourite products. Some products, however, will be discontinued once the stock is depleted to make way for exciting new products currently being formulated in our 40th year of business. The table below shows the list of products to be discontinued.
Look out for future blog posts about the exciting reformulated products as they become available in the UK. Favourites that I am looking forward to are the Aloe Bath Gelee, the Sonya Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner, and the Sonya Volumizing Mascara and Precision Liquid Eyeliner.
Next year Forever celebrates its 40th birthday and to honour the occasion, they will be launching a New Year campaign called ‘40 YEARS OF GETTING IT RIGHT’. The campaign will run throughout the month of January and will revolve around our flagship and founding product, Forever Aloe Vera Gel. This gel has literally impacted the lives of millions of people – Forever got it right in 1978 when it was first introduced to the market, and 40 years later, they are still getting it right!
The campaign will encourage you to join us in getting it right by taking a daily shot of aloe throughout January. Due to a change in EU regulations, all companies with leave on products containing Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) are required to reformulate to eliminate this ingredient.
While we will be facing some stock outages of some of these products temporarily, our teams were able to move quickly with short notice to reformulate these products and minimize the inconvenience to our customers.
Products such as Firming Day Lotion and Recovering Night Creme from the Fleur range and Gentleman’s Pride should be from later in February, The Rehydrating Toner and the Fleur Kit from March and the Heat Lotion (my personal favourite) from April/May. The dates for Aloe Sunscreen and the Sonya Aloe Deep Moisturizing Cream are still to be confirmed. These dates may change, so keep an eye out for updates.
Some products are to be discontinued to make room for new innovation. Over almost 40 years, Forever has built a wide assortment of products. With so many exciting new developments and reformulations coming your way, Forever has decided to say goodbye to some of our classics in order to make room for new innovations later this year or next year. We will sell these products until stock lasts, but please note that products containing MIT will be unavailable with immediate effect.
